The strong push for skateboarding to be included in the Olympics continues, as shown by this recent video pitch displayed on the International Skateboarding Federation’s (ISF) website. Although the everyday skateboarder may not be familiar with the ISF, they are skateboarding’s governing body with the goal to “to provide direction and governance for the sport of skateboarding worldwide.” While the discussion of skateboarding’s inclusion into the Olympics has been going on for a long time, that doesn’t mean everyday skaters should not be aware or have a voice in how our activity is being defined and marketed.

A SERIOUS REVIEW OF MARK SUCIU’S SERIOUS “VERSO”
Verso asks that we pay it a kind of attention many of us automatically do not. Knowing this, we choose to either look more closely or let it pass before our eyes the way the rest of skating does.

UNDERSTANDING THE NEAL HENDRIX ALLEGATIONS & POWER DYNAMICS IN SKATEBOARDING
How can skateboarders within the industry do a better job of keeping each other in check?

wow! so much butthurt over this! sure, skateboarding in the olympics may be lame as fuck, but does anyone really think its gonna cause the rest of skating to be less rad? Will a weak ass video about “progression being the hook up the ass of cool” stop figgy from slaloming security guards to drop triple sets? Will the ISF make sammy baca cut his hair?
The reason skateboarding survived its fluctuations in popularity in the past, from the overexposure in the late 80s to the near complete death in the early nineties, isn’t because the industry as a whole acted with integrity; its because, whatever the rest of the world does, there’ll allways be a small subset of fuckups and misfits who dont give a shit about anything and just wanna ride a plank with four wheels attatched to the bottom. I reckon that is the beating heart of this unruly, cancerous beast we call skateboarding, and whatever corporate dicksucking convention is trying to hitch their carriage to it, that heart will keep on beating. After all, that is all it knows how to do!
So, in conclusion, lets try not to get our panties in too big of a bunch just because the circus decided to stop by in our shithole of town. Instead, lets enjoy the popcorn, laugh at the clowns, throw rocks at the elefants and try to fuck as many of the trapeze girls as possible while we still can! Cause, at the end of the day, no matter what happens on the stage or on the podium (or in the dark corners of some IOC boardroom), the true winners will allways be the ones who had the most fun!

Exactly.
So many skaters are whinging on the internet because pro’s are selling out – seriously, who gives a fuck? You’re buying their shoes anyway…
For every Nyjah or Shaun White sucking the devil’s corporate cock, there’s a Tom Penny chillin’ in France not releasing any footage, or an unknown AM who hasn’t found anyone to film his skating yet.
There’s also a big difference between watching a skate video, and actually being there to see a trick go down.
Demos bring that feeling to people’s hometowns, whereas a contest also gives pros the motivation to give it everything they’ve got to win.

the penny chills in denmark… not that it would make a difference

the competition should encompass a surveillance based free for all where the skateboarders get buck on all the new architecture built for the occasion. Who ever does not get arrested, shot, or beat down by the military police get’s the gold. There is no silver, and no bronze either.
