Like any major city, skating in NYC can sometimes be a pain in the ass. Even the skate parks are a bit of a hassle to skate. Most of them are overcrowded with mobs of skaters from the surrounding areas or tourists who infiltrate the city every summer. That’s part of the reason why places like Tompkins Square Park and 12th & A are so popular among locals; they might not be “legit spots” but they’re a solid hang out with plenty of space and decent ground.
Kevin, a New Jersey skater took notice of this and recently started try to make these otherwise-bland meeting places more fun. On his off days, Kevin loads up his van and makes the hour trek from Jersey into the city with homemade boxes, rails and kickers, where he creates pop up skateparks. His obstacles are open for anyone to skate and organized purely for the love, which is why it feels like Christmas when he happens to stop by your area. One day you might catch him at Tompkins, and then the next day at William F. Passanante Ballfield aka “TF West“. He uses Instagram @NyRampCo as his sole promo tool, posting a short clip of someone skating his obstacles announcing where he’ll be setup for the day. If you’re not on your feed, you might not catch him.
With the help of Levi’s Skateboarding, we met Kevin at his apartment in Englewood, New Jersey where we packed up the ramps and drove into the city to set up his pop up mobile skatepark to see exactly how it’s done.

A SERIOUS REVIEW OF MARK SUCIU’S SERIOUS “VERSO”
Verso asks that we pay it a kind of attention many of us automatically do not. Knowing this, we choose to either look more closely or let it pass before our eyes the way the rest of skating does.
