A few months back we met Cory Keen, who builds all kinds of pre-made ramps, flatbars, and other high-quality obstacles that most of us made bootleg versions of with scrap wood and shipping palettes.
Cory said he’s been wanting to build a replica of the L.A. High handrail (the almost tiny looking one from back in the day) and put it in exactly where the school took it out 15 years ago. This was a no brainer for us. It’s not like we were going full-Berra and inventing a new spot designed to our specifications, just reviving a little bit of history for everyone to share. So after a little bit of planning and historic photo research, we worked together to recreate the famous spot as close as possible to its original glory.
We snuck into the school late last Saturday night to bolt the rail into the stairs, then Sunday morning invited a bunch of skateboarders over to session it. For guys who were too young to skate the rail when it was still around—Ishod Wair, Jamie Foy, Neen Williams—it was inspiring to see them tear into it.
The rail will be there until/if the school decides to tear it out or knob it, so get there while you can if you want a piece of re-history.

Sick vid but can’t believe Guy Mariano’s buttery frontside nollie 180 switch crook on that rail in Mouse circa ’95/96 wasn’t mentioned. First time I ever remember even seeing that rail was in his line in that all time classic vid.
