this is fuckin awesome. always thought this was one of the greatest parts of skating culture. one of the last “fuck you, im gonna skate” ideologies left.
for anyone else interested in deknobbing
– flap disc is highly recommended to buff out the rails after you cut knobs off with a cutting wheel.
– daytime is key. aint nobody ever gonna believe someone would be “working” at night (assuming you are going to dress like you are supposed to be doing it)
– have a bullshit story about a fake boss (contractor/landscaper/construction) that you work for who told you to take the knobs off. wouldn’t hurt to have something to use in case someone rolls up. could at least give you a chance to get the fuck outta there before they figure it out
– also a fun thing to note – a lot of times (depending on your county/state/town/whatever) knobs are technically illegal because they violate a handrails safety code. imagine your grandmother having to hold on to the railing, she slips and falls and breaks her hand on a knob, that’s a huge liability. so keep that little info in your back pocket as well ; ) sometimes you can even file a petition (or print up a fake one to bring to the spot) and have the city’s permission to “fix” the railing and get it back to code
