Gather ’round the screen, skaters. We’ve got an epic tale to tell about the mythic battles between the old gods of skate history, and we want you to help give it some color.
Jon Horner, one of skateboarding’s most prolific illustrators, dreamt up this incredible comic depicting the late ’80s big brand exodus when skaters like Mark Gonzales left Vision and founded Blind skateboards with Steve Rocco, bringing along Jason Lee and others.
Regardless of all the skate history nuance, the story actually parallels the ancient Greek myth of “Jason and the Argonauts,” which was expertly depicted by stop-motion master Ray Harryhausen in the 1963 cult classic film of the same name. Jon’s riff, “Jason and the Rocconauts,” pays homage to the film and the legend with an added overdose of skate nerdery.
Since we’re mostly all locked up and looking for things to do, Jon hit us up with the idea to put up his one-color comic as a coloring contest, giving you all the chance to ink his drawings however you wanted. Great idea, easy content, and something to do to keep ourselves from going absolutely stir-crazy while in staying at home–done deal.
And to incentivize some of the more sedentary of you all, we’re going to give away some little prizes for our three favorite submissions. So send in what you got, color in or out of the lines, and win a copy of our activity book and maybe some other special goodies we got laying around the office.

Verso asks that we pay it a kind of attention many of us automatically do not. Knowing this, we choose to either look more closely or let it pass before our eyes the way the rest of skating does.

Yo, this is really well made and was a fun read. I could definitely seeing this being like a limited lil series!
I definitely dig the art style. If someone read it without knowing anything about skating, they’d still probably enjoy it. Keep em coming!
