We’re hyped to announce our latest collaboration with a longstanding Bushwick staple, Tortilleria Los Hermanos. If you’ve ever been around North Brooklyn and gotten off at the Jefferson Ave L train stop, chances are you’ve walked by.
A little bit of backstory: ever since Jenkem moved out of cafes and living rooms and into a proper office, we’ve been headquartered in Bushwick, Brooklyn. It’s historically a Black and Latino immigrant neighborhood, with tons of residents originally calling countries like Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico home.
Of course, there are plenty of US-born transplants (including ourselves) who have moved into the neighborhood in search of cheaper rents and bigger living spaces, too. We’d be lying by omission if we didn’t acknowledge those things attracted us to the neighborhood as Jenkem grew and looked for a place to establish some roots.
Right across from our first office at 49 Wyckoff Ave was Los Hermanos, a no-frills, affordable, and delicious Mexican food joint that kept us happily fed over the years with their amazing tacos, quesadillas, and tortas. We’ve taken business meetings, had staff lunches, and gotten huge to-go orders at the restaurant many times.
In a way, they’ve been a part of our story and growth, and our editor, Alexis Castro, who is also of Mexican descent, wanted a way to celebrate his connection to both Jenkem and the beloved establishment that represents his heritage.
Alexis hit up the family that has run the place since day one, and they agreed to let us work on some original merch designs for them. All proceeds will be split between us and the restaurant.
The products are available today directly on our shop, so check them out and grab one, and if you ever find yourself in Bushwick, make sure to swing by Los Hermanos for a delicious meal.
More content soon.
Love,
Jenkem

This is really dope. Big up the family businesses. Big corporations have no soul and lack positive energy.
This type of collaboration is where it’s at. Respect!
