Welcome to our newest feature — Jenkem Mix Live.
After 100+ mixes, we decided to shake things up a bit and start recording them IRL and add a video component. First up, we have Kyota Umeki and The Star Team.
Not only is Kyota’s brand gaining some serious traction, but we’ve also been seeing his name on flyers for a bunch of different events in the city, both skate and non-skate-related. When we floated the idea to him, he suggested doing the mix on his apartment balcony in the East Village, the neighborhood he grew up in, and HQ for The Star Team.
We lugged our cameras, cables, mixer, and laptop out there and hung out while he banged out his set, with a classic NYC skyline and sunset as the backdrop. The party got cut a little bit short because his neighbor complained, but we still managed to capture close to an hour of Kyota in the mix.
Of course, not everyone who has done a mix with us has DJ experience, so we’ll be reserving these for your favorites who have been behind the decks at least a few times. If you’re feeling this new format, let us know who we should hit up for the next installment.

Verso asks that we pay it a kind of attention many of us automatically do not. Knowing this, we choose to either look more closely or let it pass before our eyes the way the rest of skating does.

Cool idea & nice backdrop. Perhaps you could find a vinyl DJ for one of the next installments, would be even cooler. Greets from Berlin

Rory Milanes would be a good guest. Some other obvious choices would be Cardiel, Kevin Romar, Alex Olson etc.
