It’s no secret that some of the world’s best skaters come from Brazil, but they haven’t always had the best luck gaining traction in the industry.
Brazilians have dominated in contests and put out legit street parts for decades, but that didn’t always translate to “real” (aka paying) sponsors.
Nowadays that’s changing, and companies are finally realizing that they’re marketable personalities and not too shabby with their footwork and style after all these years.
One of the best skaters out of Brazil recently is Vitoria Mendonça, who first caught our eye thanks to the Instagram algorithm, but has since held onto our attention through her excellent output with Element and Adidas. She’s got an impressive and powerful style, and she’s a kind soul, too, which goes a lot further than you would think when it comes to moving up in the industry.
We met up with her during her stay in New York and tagged along as she checked out some of the most iconic spots in the city, got a little taste of our local “cuisine,” and just generally hung out in a new and strange land.
